Vessel Details & Walkthrough
The Classic Grand Banks 42 - there is good reason these vessels have been so successful over the years - they offer a stout, seaworthy vessel with a very functional and livable layout, which proves why owners tend to keep & enjoy them for a long time. "Breakaway" is a beautifully maintained example, having had excellent care from her owners over the years, and she presents very well. Owners are retiring from cruising and enjoying their boat, and they want to see her go to a good home!
Starting on the bridge deck, she offers great sight lines for easy passage on the water, while keeping her captain and crew in comfort in her spacious seating configuration, including the optional rear L-shaped settee with varnished Grand Banks grate table. Full vessel command is afforded the helmsman, with controls and monitoring of all ship systems close at hand. Storage below the seating affords secure places for stowing all of your gear. The bridge is also a very popular place for entertaining, and she offers plenty of room for all of your family & friends.
Stepping down a few steps brings you down to the area of the deck where the dinghy is kept secure but at the ready, The Achilles's RIB dinghy and Yamaha outboard are mounted in a set of custom chocks, and launching and retrieval is easy with the recessed electric winch. Opposite the dinghy is the grill - always a great spot for preparing the evenings' meal.
Once down the final steps to the main deck, you will note that there is a solid teak rail and ample handholds to keep you aboard on those less than perfect days on the water. A large bow sprit with double anchor rollers and hawsepipes for rode storage make anchoring simple and easy. Retrieval is via the electric windlass, and high-pressure washdown ensures that you are able to keep everything tidy. Moving aft brings you to the forward storage locker & seat with attached fender storage. Transiting down the side decks, you notice that your footing is secure and uncluttered. The aft deck affords an enormous lazarette storage area with access to the three water tanks, storage for lots of gear, and access to the steering system.
Stepping inside via the starboard side door, you are brought in to the warm and inviting teak interior. Lower helm station is to starboard with a fixed seat well positioned. Mini-bar with ice maker below is behind the helm seat. Opposite to port is the L-shaped galley which would make any chef proud. Lots of storage space, functional counters, propane stove & oven, electric microwave, DC refrigerator and separate freezer, stainless steel sink with faucet and even a filtered water system are all close at hand. Moving aft brings you into the main salon which has a large L-shaped settee to starboard with storage below. A fix mounted drop-leaf table separates the opposite straight settee with storage below. Port side access door is accessible between the settee and the aft end of the galley. Entertainment center is aft to port.
Stepping down a few steps aft brings you to the large master stateroom with island queen berth and en suite head and separate shower compartments. There is ample storage throughout to store all of your wares for a long cruise, including a hanging locker forward with automatic illumination. Head is on the forward port side and features a vanity & WC. Starboard side is the dedicated shower. Lots of windows allow for a warm feeling of natural light throughout.
Once back in the main salon, the guest stateroom is accessed via stepping down several steps forward of the galley. Once there you will find a large V-berth, ample drawer storage below the berth, a huge hanging locker space, and a large head with shower to starboard. This stateroom would be an ideal place to allow your guests to retire, relax & unwind after enjoying their time aboard with you.As always, please let me know if you have any specific questions. I look forward to hearing from you!

Manufacturer Provided Description
The Grand Banks 42 Classic has been decades in the making. The original Ken Smith design has been amended and updated with the practical input of her owners. The experience gained since the laying of the first GB 42 keel in 1966 is reflected in each one commissioned today. Her practical layout, sturdy fiberglass construction, deep water design, and long range capability all add up to a complete cruising boat. The Grand Banks semi-displacement hull design, with a fine entry forward, hard chines aft, and a full keel has been proven on waters around the world. Single or twin diesel power will deliver economy at hull speed and provide higher cruising speeds when larger than the standard engines are chosen. Many power options are available. The flybridge is easily accessible from the main deck and offers excellent 360-degree visibility when underway or maneuvering dockside. A pair of back-to-back double seats provide generous seating for eight with watertight storage beneath the seats. The bridge console has full instrumentation with handy storage for large items below. The steering wheel is handcrafted teak. The standard electric windlass, mounted on a dual roller anchor platform protected by a stainless rail, helps make the anchoring process as simple as possible. The location of the shore power inlets, at the bow and stern, makes power connections possible without boat position being a problem. The foredeck storage locker is great for lines and the large lazarette aft provides convenient storage for a variety of cruising gear. The focal point of the Grand Banks 42 Classic is the deckhouse. The spacious main saloon measures 14-feet, 8-inches by 10-feet, 4-inches and combines the activities hub, entertainment center, and main living area. Forward is the fully equipped galley to port and the complete helm station to starboard. The companion-way forward leads to the guest stateroom with V-berths and a roomy head with its own shower. The galley is complete with a range - oven, refrigerator, stainless steel sink, cutting boards, and excellent storage in several cabinets. The helm area features a full width overhead electronics locker and a flip up storage compartment for manuals and navigational tools. Just aft of the starboard door is the dry-bar cabinet. Looking aft in the saloon, you can see the long L-shaped settee with a teak yacht table. The aft stateroom displays beautiful teak joinery. Parquet soles, built-in furniture and cabinets and hand-crafted moldings are blended with modern fabrics to create the traditional yacht look. This stateroom features a choice of several layouts with a double berth to starboard and a single berth to port being standard. All layouts have exceptional storage in hanging lockers, bureaus, and below-berth drawers. A large, flat chart drawer is standard in each layout. The private owners head has a separate stall shower and good storage for towels in several cabinets. The engine room in the 42 Classic is special. With working space outboard of and between both engines there is plenty of installation space for essential gear. The standard 8-KW generator comes with a sound shield for quiet operation. The exterior of the hull and deckhouse on the GB 42 is smooth gelcoated fiberglass. Teak decking is laid over the fiberglass on the main deck and flybridge. The bulwarks surrounding the wide main deck are capped with a sturdy teak safety rail providing safe movement from bow to stern for those on board. The Grand Banks 42: In production since the 60s, her hull was redesigned in the early 90s giving the proven Grand Banks semi-displacement hull a longer waterline and an increased beam. Ideal for a couple with children or guests, she cruises economically at 9 knots, yet 17 knots is typical with optional engines. The Classic offers two staterooms, separated by the main saloon and galley. A variety of layouts are available including an aft cabin with an island double bed.
