Captain Eli and Sven departed River Dunes, just outside of Oriental, NC at about 6:30am and immediately headed from the Neuse River to Adams Creek, another canal on the ICW, down to Beaufort and out the Cape Fear River Inlet.
Outside, the wind was blowing 25-30 knots out of the west. They made the call to hug the beach and stay close to shore giving them a little relief from the wind. This was the first day that Captain Eli and Sven had some real seas and wind to test the handling of Sabre 58 which has run fantastic in the smaller seas since it left Maine. Sea conditions were a 4-5 ft following sea and the boat performed beautifully. They were able to run around 25/26 knots the entire trip to Georgetown, SC, where they hunkered down for the night! To quote Captain Eli, “The boat ran awesome in a downwind sea!”
