Leon Slikkers is the founder of Tiara Yachts. In the late 1940s he began his career as a carpenter for Chris-Craft. While working for Chris-Craft, Leon built a home for his wife and their family. In the mid-1950s, Leon decided it was time to take a risk. Leon quit his job with Chris-Craft, began building boats out of his garage and when he realized he needed more space, he sold their family home with only $5,000 in his pocket. Fast forward to today, and Tiara Yachts has just celebrated their 50th year anniversary!
Leon’s son, CEO and President of Tiara Yachts, Tom Slikkers, is quoted as saying “My father’s story is the American dream come true. He started out by himself with his dream and a vision, and catapulted our company off into the stratosphere…”
