Here is an update from our Maryland clients that are cruising the Great Loop on their Back Cove 37:
Hello everyone, another Indigo update since we passed through Maryland in early October.
Ruth and I are currently anchored at Rattlesnake Bend on the Tenn-Tom waterway about 200 miles north of Mobile Bay. We expect to be in Mobile Bay this weekend, returning to saltwater, tides and the daily check of PredictWind. We will be cruising along the southern coast of Alabama and Florida until the end of November before we make the crossing from Carabelle on or about December 1st. We will leave Indigo in St. Petersburg, FL for a month or more while we go home for the Christmas holiday.
The stats are 3,145 NM’s, 2,309 gallons of fuel over a total of 131 days on the loop of which we have travelled 85 of those days. No issues to report with Indigo. All systems are running.
When we last spoke we had just completed the west coast of Michigan where we ended up in Hammond, IN at a huge marina for a month to take a break and travel home. When we returned to start our river journey the weather had changed into fall on Lake Michigan. We passed through downtown Chicago on Saturday October 12th. I will attach a pretty neat time lapse of Indigo going through downtown Chicago. We were early in the day and there were many tour operators running every direction; they were on the clock and moving quickly. After the video we turned around and docked back at an Italian restaurant on the Chicago waterfront and ordered take out pizza before heading into the rivers. Now we are over 1,200 miles south on the Tenn-Tom Waterway in Alabama after 20 travels days on the rivers. The rivers are both frustrating and beautiful. The sceneries along the Tennessee River and Tenn-Tom waterway are stunning. This is dampened after dealing large locks that cater to tow traffic. On two occasions we got stuck for the night not able to pass through the lock before dark. Sometimes we pull up and are locked in for 10-30 minutes. Worst case we’ve waited for 16 hours. We have reservations at three marina resorts along the gulf in the next few weeks which we are looking forward to, along with a week or more anchored along the barrier islands.
Stay tuned for the next Indigo update!
