When we think of Thanksgiving, we usually think of family and food. Thanksgiving sides are the highlight of the meal for most. Try this classic version of Macaroni & Cheese this year. It’s sure to become a family favorite.
Ingredients:
16oz large shells or cavatappi pasta
6 tbsp salted butter
1/3 cup grated onion
2 tsp dry mustard
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
6 tbsp all-purpose flour
3-1/2 cups milk
1-3/4 cups heavy cream
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
4oz shredded yellow cheddar cheese & 4oz cubed cheddar cheese
4oz shredded white cheddar cheese & 4oz cubed cheddar cheese
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350. Boil pasta to al dente.
Melt butter in saucepan, add onion, dry mustard, salt, black pepper, nutmeg and cayenne pepper. Cook and stir for about 30 seconds. Add flour and cook while stirring for 2 minutes. Gradually add in milk and cream. Bring to a boil, whisking. Reduce heat and simmer while whisking until thickened about 5 minutes. Add Worcestershire sauce.
Remove sauce from heat and add 4oz each of shredder yellow and white cheddar cheese. Stir in cooked pasta and cubed cheese. Pour into greased baking dish.
Bake for 30 minutes until bubbly and golden.
Optional: Add some more shredded cheese and broil for two minutes.
