Jack Martin

I started my career in the boating industry at the age of 14, selling kayaks and paddleboards in a landlocked portion of Connecticut. Since then, the floating devices that I have grown to love have only gotten bigger, faster and more complex. I quickly found that engines and sails help too!

While in school, I spent the majority of my summers working at a Marina and Tackle Shop as well as on the water on my family’s boat in the Connecticut River, Long Island Sound, Narragansett Bay and beyond. Much of my experience on waterways I can attribute to racing stand up paddleboards, I quickly became intrigued with this niche sport and found myself traveling nationwide for long-distance paddling events. While the “professional development” excuse to skip school was fun; I became passionate about composites, hull design and was constantly drawing comparisons between boats and boards.

After graduating from the University of New Hampshire where I studied Marketing and Sustainability, I moved home with my family back to the shoreline of Connecticut and was very fortunate to spend time working with Defender Industries Inc. in Waterford, Connecticut joining their Boats & Motors team as a Sales and Service Representative. While home, the boat bug snowballed and I purchased a few skiffs and restored them from the ground up. The blood, sweat, itchy fiberglass, and extensive headaches (and getting resin and foam all over my family’s driveway) was certainly worth it!

My passion for boats, the ocean and the mountains and sharing it with my friends and family drew me to Maine and knew it was time to head north! When I am not working, you can find me surfing year-round, fishing in Casco Bay or backcountry skiing in the White Mountains.
