Today’s featured DiMillo’s employee is Gianmarco Bocchini – Service Technician Apprentice.
Ever since he was a young boy, Marco dreamed of being out on the water. When he was about 5 years old he and his mom shared a cab with a man in the Dominican Republic, who was in the US Navy. The man let Marco try on his shining white Captain’s hat and he knew then that he wanted to be a part of the marine world.
When Marco was 14 he joined a program called “Rocking the Boat” and there he really earned his sea legs. He learned how to row, tie knots and build wooden boats. Eventually he learned how to sail with the program and earned his US sailing instructor certificate. In the summer of 2015 he started teaching younger kids how to sail and earn their own sea legs.
Marco decided that he wanted a career in the marine industry so he began studying Maritime Technology at Kingsborough Community College. With just a few semesters away from graduating in 2022, he joined us at DiMillo’s in Glen Cove as a Service Technician Apprentice and has made great progress. Marco recently became Seakeeper Full-Service Hands-On Certified and continues to expand his knowledge and skills with the Service team here in New York!
